A 13-year-old American boy, Jordan Romero becomes the youngest climber to reach the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest on Saturday. He grabbed the record from Temba Tsheri of Nepal
who reached the peak at the age of 16.

Jordan’s team reached the peak hours earlier that what the expected. The team includes Jordan’s father and three Sherpa guides. Mount Everest was his first challenge above 16, 240ft. Jordan’s team left for the peak from the base camp on the Chinese side. Unlike the neighboring Nepal, there was no age limit on the side of China where Jordan registered with Chinese officials in April.

On his journey, he carried some good luck charms including a pair of kangaroo testicles given to him by a friend who has cancer. At the summit, Jordan left his lucky rabbit’s foot and planted some seeds given by a Buddhist monk at a local monastery. He also called his mom using a satellite phone.

Jordan’s team will be leaving for Antarctica in December to climb the last continental peak, the Vinson Massif. Achieving this with his age, he now joins the long list of young adventurers
